I was looking into the JPEG file format one day
when I noticed that Photoshop puts a large amount of extra
information into each JPEG file. When your JPEG is already
100kB+ I suppose this doesn't matter but for those 1kB-10kB
files you might have as icons on your web site this is a
big deal.
Enter JPEG Slim Fast. JSF is meant to trim the fat from JPEG
files. It only implements a subset of the JPEG format so it
may not work on EVERY jpg file but it seems to work on every one
I've found.
It is pretty straight forward the syntax is pretty much like copy
cept it does not work on directories yet. Also the destination wildcards
are my own creation since I cannot figure out what the heck copy does.
So if you "jsf *.jpg *_trimmed.jpg" it does what you'd expect if you were
a normal person and not a dos guru.
JSF V1.0 is FREE software however if you use this to earn
money (do web development etc.) and WANT to help me offset my
web hosting fees etc. Feel free to pitch in $5 through the paypal link:
